From their storied fighting at the First Battle of Manassas in 1861 to their later service as protective escorts for General Robert E. Lee, commander of the Army of Northern Virginia, the Black Horse Cavalry gained fame as “the bravest of the brave.” Mr. Hopewell, who is working on two books about the Fauquier troopers, has researched their story and will present it in his illustrated talk.
