Superintendent of Schools Dr.; David Gangel cast aside his; inscrutability at Tuesday night’s School Board meeting, and delivered an emotional reading of his letter of resignation. “I feel sad, satisfied,; blessed, and hopeful,” he said, and he explained that he has accomplished all that he had set out to do in Rappahannock County and would move on “to a new challenge in a larger school system.”
He attributed his sadness at his impending departure to the fact that he “will not be working with the people that I have come to know and respect” and that he will not “routinely have the beauty of the Blue Ridge as a constant background.”
Dr. Gangel expressed satisfaction that he has accomplished the professional and personal goals that he established upon coming to Rappahannock in 1987-to “make a substantial contribution” and to raise his children “in one school system so they could consider one community as their childhood home.”
