By Gerald Ochs Rappahannock News Writer Though it is not unusual to see a handful or two of teacher resignations each June, the spring of 2002 might he remembered for the scope of personnel changes in Rappahannock County Public Schools. The resignation of Principal Joseph Perine last month has been followed by the resignation of Superintendent Dr. Gangel at Tuesday’s School Board meeting (see page A-l), and the announcement by Assistant Superintendent Jack Raines of nine others. Athletic Director Jon Smythe has tendered his resignation, but according to Mr. Raines he will stay with the school system and hopes to coach football and other sports. Mr. Raines added that Mr. Smythe feels that he has “gotten things going” and now wishes to lay back a bit and “have some fun” with high school athletics. He will be replaced as Athletic Director by Richard Armstrong, former AD at Randolph-Macon Academy. Jon Heddleston, long-time English teacher at RCHS has also resigned — he will devote his full attention to the ministry. Also on the list: John Schneider, Kara Krueger, Jennifer Jenkins, Joann Berta, Holly Propst, Corinne Smith, and Terry Genther. Among those who have agreed to join RCPS staff are: Dave Gillis (RCHS mathematics!; Anthony Lambiasi (RCHS social studies); Jan Makela (RCES teacher); Tiffany Keyes (RCES teacher); Melissa Jenkins (RCES special education); Wanda Parsons (Special Education Director’s secretary); Barbara Sisk (RCES library aide); Kim Vest (RCES aide); John Glass (RCES teacher); and Richie Burke (Junior Panther softball coach). Mr. Raines also discussed the prcx'ess and results for the recruitment and hiring of a new high school principal. He said that there were 72 candidates
