It is only now that I have had
a chance to read the article in the May 8 issue regarding the Old Rag parking proposal presented by representatives of the Shenandoah National Phrk to the Board of Supervisors. I own a house at the foot of Old Rag. . To begin with, the proposed new eight acre parking lot and “contact station” (whatever that means) is located entirely in Madison County. I am therefore puzzled as to why the opinion of the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors was even requested by the Park Service.
Second, the statement that “the existing 250 car leased parking lot on Route 600 was likely to be lost within the next month or two” is incorrect. The existing Old Rag lot has been in its present location for more than 25 years, and the owners have expressed no interest in terminating the lease.
