SOL improvements
at RCHS
If “preliminary, preliminary” SOL test results hold up, significant improvements in RCHS scores might well cap Superintendent Gangel’s tenure in Rappahannock. He said that early results for the high school were sufficient enough for full accreditation and, if a weakened showing at the elementary school does not result in loss of its full accreditation^ he will have met the goal that he set last year-complete and full accreditation for the school division.
Dr. Gangel reported that overall math scores at the high school improved to a pass rate 74.3 percent, including a pass rate of 87.5 percent in Algebra I; the social studies pass rate climbed to 90.6 percent; the science rate is 83.2 percent; and the English pass rate is 81.3 percent. At the elementary school, the third grade average declined five points to 70.3; the fifth grade dropped fifteen points to an average of 70 percent, and the eighth grade average of 77.2 represents a eight point loss from last year.
