More than 60 students and their parents attended the Fifth Annual Academic Awards Reception at Rappahannock County High School on June 5.
Headwaters, the Rappahannock County Public Education Foundation, organizes and funds the event each year. Teachers from each class, grades 8 through 12, select students to honor. The awards go not only to those with high grade point averages, but also to students who have demonstrated a willingness to give their all as they work toward academic excellence.
Headwaters board member Peter Kreyling presented the first award of the evening, the Jeff MacNelly Art Award. This cash award goes to an outstanding art student. This year’s recipient was senior Kevin Yowell, who plans to continue his art studies in college.
