Henze, Noel Johns and Taylor Light provided a solid back line all day. Noel Johns’ powerful foot cleared numerous balls from our half of midfield. Emma Hathaway gave a clinic on throw-ins. She had at least a dozen picture perfect throw-ins up the line, giving our midfielders and forwards a running start at Culpeper’s goal.
Taylor Light was versatile going from fullback to midfield to forward with 100 percent effort at all positions.
Morgan Flournoy anchored the front line. While not scoring herself, she was constantly in the mix, fighting for the ball, making passes, and pressuring the goalie. Ella Miller scored our first goal with sheer aggressiveness, punching the ball in before the goalie could get it under control.
Lily Day was in perfect position for the second goal, catching a cross and poking it into the net. Marcella Wallace ran thru two loose balls in the goalie box and shook the nets for numbers three and four. Morgan Flournoy and Marcella each had a goal called back in the 1st half on close offside calls. Morgan’s shot was a rocket under the crossbar.
Savanna Booth-Enoch was tireless again at midfield. Her energy getting back on goal kicks and working the ball to our forwards has been key to our two wins. Once again all the girls are contributing and working together.
U-18
The Rapp U18 soccer team, sponsored by Kreyling Construction, traveled to Madison County for what they thought was a rematch with the Madison team they had beaten last week. What they got was a team from the Madison player pool that didn’t look or play like last weeks Madison team. During the first half, Rapp was able to maintain possession and kept the ball mostly on the Madison half of the field. Rapp scored first on a penalty kick after a hard takedown in the Madison box. Madison scored the next two goals on quick counter attack to take a 2-1 lead at the half.
After the break, Madison increased their lead to 3-1. Rapp kept the pressure on the Madison defense missing narrowly on shot after shot. With less than 15 minutes left the dam broke with Doug White tucking away a rebound, for his first of the year, to make it 3-2. Three minutes later Juan Tisera snuck one past a screened keeper with a nifty chest high volley to tie it up. Not content with a tie, Rapp pushed up a defender in the closing minute of play. The pressure was too much, Chris Rainey was able to roll one past a diving keeper to clinch another win. The fined was 4-3 Rapp.
