Just when it seemed we would take it in for the score, Corbin turned the wrong way in the backfield and fumbled the handoff to an unsuspecting Nick Compton.
The Mustangs recovered at their own 5-yard line. Two plays later, their fast tailback got around the Panther left side and broke one 91 yards for the tying touchdown. The point after kick was good and George Mason took the lead 7 to 6.
After the dramatic change of events, Rapp about to score, fumbling and then the long run by the Mustang tailback, the air went of the Panther attack and they turned the ball over on downs on their next series. The Mustangs wasted no time and sprang the same tailback on a twisting 40-yard TD run that put the Mustangs up 13 to 6 as the half ended.
The second half was dominated by defensive play from both teams. Neither team was able to threaten or score and the game ended the way it was at half time with the Panthers on the losing end. After the game Head Coach Kemp Pullin commented, “We committed some mental mistakes, like the fumble down inside near the GM goal and they always kill you in the close games.
