The RCHS freshmen football team hosted only the second home game played at the high school in its 42 years of existence. Unfortunately for the young Panther squad the results were the same as their first contest.
This time the opponent was the George Mason Mustang freshmen team from Falls Church. The loss was a tough one as the Panthers gave the Mustangs every thing they could handle, but still could not capture their first home win. The home crowd was not as large as the number that attended the first home game. Nevertheless, there were a lot more people there then would normally attend home athletic events of any kind.
Even at the Bull Run District mandated $2 ticket price, the freshmen football team gate receipts has totaled over $2000 for two home games. The RCSSA volunteers that run the concession stand also have realized a similar amount of money. These trends bode well for the future of Rappahannock County High School football as the number one moneymaker in the Athletic Department.
The game started with the Mustangs kicking off to the home team and Anthony Clinedinst returning the ball to the Panther 45-yard line to start their first drive. Unable to do anything on the ground, the Rapp team took to the air behind the passing of quarterback Dylan Corbin. He has been very effective this year passing to Clinedinst, Alex Sharp, Karl Thornhill and Luke Wilson.
This time on third down his target would be Clinedinst who hauled in the Corbin pass for a 21-yard gain and a first down deep in George Mason territory. The next series saw Corbin hit Clinedinst again, this time for a 12-yard strike that put the ball inside the Mustang 10, first and goal Rapp.
Corbin ran the quarterback sneak up the middle 2 and 1/2 yards out for the score. The point after kick failed and the Panthers had the lead 6 to 0.
The first quarter ended with the same score. Both defenses held the opposing teams in check for the remainder of the first half until the Panthers got a break mid-way through the second quarter.
On a fourth down punt attempt by the Mustangs, the ball was snapped over the kicker’s head and Robbie Swan recovered at the George Mason 26-yard line. Corbin hit Sharp for a pass that put
