Throughout his apartment there is a collection of country folk art, including wooden ducks, Canada geese in flight, pointing hunting dogs, and his piece de resistance — a mystery block of dark oak about four feet tall, with beautifbl grain and obvious patina from an older era.
He asked me if I knew what this very unusual antique was. Not having ever seen anything like it, I said, “Maybe a chopping block because of its height and flat top?”
