Almeda Hudson “Sarah” Armentrout, 102, who was bom in Washington, Va. died of pneumonia Feb. 13 at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park.
She was a retired coowner of a domestic services employment agency and mother of two Hyattsville mayors.
Mrs. Armentrout, a Hyattsville resident, was the mother of Mayor Robert W. Armentrout and the late Charles L. Armentrout Jr., mayor from 1967 to 1975.
Mrs. Armentrout was bom on a farm near Washington. She moved to the District in 1922 and began working as a clerk for the Ladies Exchange Employment Bureau, which arranged maid services to embassies. She eventually became its co-owner and helped manage the business until it closed in 1976.
She served as a consultant to an employment service in Montgomery County until her retirement in the late 1980s.
Mrs. Armentrout was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years and a member of First Baptist Church of Hyattsville.
Her husband, Charles Lewis Armentrout Sr., died in 1953. A son, Charles Jr., died in 1990.
In addition to her son Robert, survivors include six grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren.
