I have written several letters
of concern over the past few years on such important county issues as paid fire and EMS. But these issues pale in light of my concern for the children of our county.
I have had children in the Rappahannock public schools since 1999.1 see a severe lack of funding in all areas of the public school system. While we brag about the beauty of our countryside and fight the urban sprawl, we neglect the basic needs of our children.
The water is disgusting, the facilities are extremely hot in the summer, the electricity is insufficient for air conditioning and computer upgrades (when we get upgrades it is through generous groups like Headwaters apd the PTO), teacher pay is low, and now the bank road.
I continue to be amazed that the people of Rappahannock County believe they live in a democracy. One needs only to read last weeks Rappahannock News to see that all who spoke about the access road were opposed, yet the planning commission voted in favor 4-2.
