Though the Rappahannock County Planning Commission had approved Bank Road with its Schoolhouse Road intersection at its meetiiig last month, the issue was raised again before the Board of Supervisors at its March 3 meeting
Sheriff Larry Sherertz, . who spoke during the public comments portion of the meeting, said that he has continued to pursue Bank Road alternatives because of his concerns’ about public safety.
In earlier remarks both in an interview with the Rappahannock News and at the Planning Commission hearing, he spoke of the potential conflict between traffic entering and leaving Bank Road at the proposed Schoolhouse Road intersection and school-related vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
At the Board of Supervisors meeting, he said that he had asked Virginia Department of Transportation District Engineer Robert Moore about the possibility of creating a crossover to the Rappahannock National Bank's main commercial center entrance on Route 211
He said that Mr. Moore agreed that it might be possible to do so. The sheriff explained that the crossover would permit westbound Ro„u _■] traffic to turn left directly into the commercial center, in lieu of a cessing it through Schoolhouse Road, and that the crossover would thus eliminate the need for a Bank Road Schoolhouse Road intersection
Sheriff Sherertz noted that Mr Moore agreed to speak .with VD< > i Resident Engineer David Cubbage about the possibility, after which Mr. Moore would inform the Sheriff about the results of-those discus sions.
