Rappahannock County.
He particularly liked the pictures and as we both reflected on life in the county, he showed me a small album of his own pictures at his farm. One showed him skating gracefully and with great gusto across the ice of his pond.
As Sen. McCarthy walked me to the door saying, “We must do this again sometime,” I thought his skating on the pond may be only pleasant memories now.
But his mind seemed us sharp as the blades I saw him on in the, photo as he keeps up with current events and is not afraid, with his outspoken political comments, to express his views.
Our community of inter ests just happened to coin cide — his “nostalgia” for Rappahannock County and an opportunity for me to spend time reminiscing with a wise, elder statesman, who was a political idol to millions of young people in the 60s and 70s. It was an afternoon to remember.
