The meeting was then opened for public comment. Dorothy Hawkins said that she supports Fowler “wholeheartedly.” Charlie Kevis provided details on Fowler’s current position with “Honeywell International as Director of Energy Management Services,” and said that this experience would enable him to be a good council member. Mr. Kevis also discussed the value of Mr. Fowler’s petition and said, “It’s not an election day, but the next best thing to it. If this is a representative government . . . this (petition) has meaning.”
Former Mayor Stew Willis also spoke in support of Fowler and pointed out that the 50 signatures from residents on the petition represent votes that are, “other than Jerry (Goebel), more than anyone else up there.”
Robin Purnell, who was the last of 10 to speak in support of Fowler, told the council, “You are supposed to represent the people of the town. . . . Brandon does not have a hidden agenda—he will make fair decisions based upon what’s good for the people and for the town.”
Ray Gooch was the sole voice in support of Goodine. He spoke of her “real courage and real independence” on the Town Planning Commission, and said, regarding Fowler’s petition, that he has “seen in the past they have been uniformly
