Facing The Music
With the upsurge in customized funerals, music is playing an increasingly important role in the service. Because the choice of suitable music is so important, it should be done by those who pre-plan their own funerals. Doing so relieves next-of-kin of the burden of making the choices and eliminates any chance of inappropriate music. And, in essence, selecting the music for your own funeral provides you with the chance to speak posthumously and eloquently. At the same time, there are some practical considerations. The selected piece(s) should be sufficiently long to encourage suitable meditation, but not so long as to hold up the proceedings inordinately. Music plays an important role in our lives, as it should also in death.
