farm’s large resident Canada goose flock is showing territorial and mating displays, which involve a lot of bobbing, waving, pointing, and rolling of the head, wing flapping, and even more honking than usual, and the usual is quite enough, thank you.
The “ahonk,” “hink," and snore-calls of geese mating fill the air. Nest building should start soon. I see our geese getting more territorial about the lovely, protected island in the middle of our pond, which is a great nesting site.
I put out a bird house my mother had had at her house, and several small birds showed interest. I’m hoping the wrens will find it and not nest in one of my potted plants this year.
While the spring peepers won’t start their calls until it’s a bit w armer. I’ve decided to pack up my mukluks, get my spring clothes out of storage and start doing a lot more hiking through the local fields and forests to find
