Respectfully Mayor Leggett, I think you
made a big mistake in not acknowledging that the petition in favor of Brandon Fowler for Tbwn Council was not worthy of consideration. *
These signatures represented the informed choice of intelligent, interested members of this community, like yourself, who deliberated between the qualifications of the two candidates and chose Mr. Fowler.
I recognize that the choice was yours to make whether to vote for Mr. Fowler or not, but in your deliberations I think you have an obligation to consider the voices of your constituents when they speak to you.
Everyone with whom I have spoken this past week concerning the process of selection at the council meeting, thought that it seemed disrespectful of you toward the townspeople who signed that petition when you dismissed their petition so quickly and casually.
It seemed from your comments that you thought they were just saying, “Vote for Mr. Fowler because he’s my friend!”— which of course would have been an inappropriate petition.
But, you know, they were all asked to consider the same qualifications that you were before they demonstrated their choice by signing their names.
As I said, your vote was up to you, but the town is going to participate in it’s own government, and I think that you should show that you respect the intelligent contributions of interested citizens, regardless of whether or not you agree with them.
