Don’t hold your breath for the changes, but the highway department has plans for the intersection of Main and Middle Streets in the middle of Washington.
The intersection, marked by the Post Office, The Inn, and the parking lot at Trinity Church, has been a traffic headache for years, according to Charlie Eldred, who lives at Washington House, on the fourth corner of the intersection. Louise Van Dort, chairman of the Town Planning Commission, said recently that traffic from the Fodderstack Road often rolls past the Post Office too fast for the traffic congestion there.
