Winding, hilly Route 729 in Rappahannock County was the scene of another fatal accident, according to the Virginia State Police.
George H. Raub, 55, of Castleton was killed June 2 when his 1984 Datsun pickup heading south on Route 729 entered a curve too fast, locked its brakes and slid in to the northbound lane where it hit head on a full size 1994 GMC pickup driven by Robert Carroll of Castleton, according to Sgt. Tbdd Thylor.
"Speed was a factor in the accident," said Sgt. Taylor who worked the scene. He said it couldn't be determined though exactly how fast Raub was driving.
Raub's truck overturned and he was dead at the scene, said Sgt. Thylor.
The 6:30 p.m. accident occurred one-tenth of a mile south of the location where Rappahannock County High School senior Mary Beth Williams,18, lost her life while a passenger in a car that slammed into a large walnut tree on Route 729 on May 14,1997.
Carroll was taken to Fauquipr Hospital along with two young girls, aged five and seven, who were occupants in his car.
An injured teenaged girl in Raub's car was flown by helicopter to Fairfax INOVA Hospital.
While Carroll has been released, hospital information was unavailable on the condition of the other occupants of each car.
