As Raye Tupper, principal of the Rappahannock County Elementary School said, “there was a lot of excited anticipation” leading up to DARE Day.
And when it came on Friday, June 6, more than 1,000 students, parents, volunteers and exhibitors showed up for the 7th annual day of festivities to promote the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program.
DARE Day at the elementary school includes traditional field day events, like sack races and tug of war. In addition, exhibitions from organizations such as local fire departments and police units, as well as the FBI and U. S. Army have been added. A hot air balloon, train, wading pool and slip and slide were also on hand.
