Like Werner Krebser, I was
not born a Virginian or a Rappahannocker, but made a conscious decision to become both. And although he wasn’t even born in this country, I cannot think of anyone who better represents not only the American dream, but also what it truly means to be a citizen of Rappahannock County and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
To me, Dr. Krebser embodied the Jeffersonian idea of a true Virginia gentleman, scholarly and athletic, politically engaged, with a great appreciation for farming and the beauty of the land, and one who took great delight in the company of his fellows.
Next to Mr. Jefferson, I’d have to say the Werner was probably my best role model on how to be a Virginian, but he was next to no one in show
