Have you noticed Heifalump (Sweet #17) — the 2-1/2 year old Polled Hereford heifer — lounging on her favorite spot in The Pet Tailor’s field on Scrabble Road?
I have. Sweet #17 came to live with Kay and Larry Nolan sometime around Easter two years ago.
She had to be moved from the Bealeton farm where she was born because she could not stay with the others to breed because of a rare genetic disease she was born with.
Her leg bones are deformed and she is blind in one eye.
Heifalump is a miracle. She is an adorable, yet incredibly strong-willed animal.
Most cows born with this genetic disease die young.
This heifer is able to get around slowly. She loves to lay in the field and eat hay.
Other rescued residents, Prince (a horse) and Rio (a donkey who loves hot dog buns) and about 30 sheep, harmoniously share the field with her.
Along with the others, she is there to live out the rest of her days in peace and happiness.
