honors in Commercial Baking; Jason Kirby placed third in Building Maintenance; and Adam Freitag finished fourth in Culinary Arts.

Contestants are given a set amount of time to complete several tasks related to their industry, and are judged on the quality of the finished product as well as their work habits.

• Raymond Furr was given a time limit to properly install a door with hinges; a sink faucet and water cut-off valve; install and wire a single pole light switch, including replacing the breaker; and rebuild and install a carburetor for a riding mower.

• Nathan Corbin was required to prepare butter cookies, three pie crusts, biscuits, a loaf of bread and single knot rolls, an assortment of pastries, icing, and decorate a cake.

• Jason Kirby had to properly clean a classroom, a bathroom, and a carpet; and properly strip, clean and wax a floor, as well as demonstrating the use of speed buffers.

• Adam Freitag successfully completed the preparation of a chicken and prepared a meal consisting of a Greek salad with lemon vinaigrette, a chicken breast stuffed with Italian sausage, spinach and feta cheese.

In addition to the medals and ribbons, the students received several prizes given by supporting sponsors, including tool kits and tools for the maintenance contests.

Corbin earned a $6,000 scholarship to the Culinary Institute of America for winning the Commercial Baking competition, and will go on to compete against first place medalists from other states in Kansas City, Missouri this summer.
