There is a growing interest in creating rural historic districts in Rappahannock County. Research is currently underway to establish the Laurel Mills community as an historic district, as reported in the Rappahannock News on April 1, 2004.
How to qualify
According to Kathleen S. Kilpatrick, director of the Department of Historic Resources, a property must be associated with significant historical events or persons, or possess outstanding archaeological or architectural importance, to be considered for listing on the Virginia register.
