On Saturday, April 17, the 26th Annual Fodderstack 10-K Race will be run from Flint Hill to Washington.
In the tradition of designating anniversaries with certain characteristics — such as the “Silver” for the 25th and the “Golden” for the 50th — this is the “Athens Olympics Running” of the Fodderstack.
In honor of the return of the modem Olympics to the country of its origin, intrepid souls from throughout the area will compete for a metaphorical laurel wreath.
A” bungled start” for the race continues to be one of Rappahannock County’s most hallowed traditions.
We have had everything from a stalled starter’s vehicle to a misfiring starter’s gun, a malfunctioning bull-horn, and a lost time-keeper to our credit — not to mention an unprovoked deer attack on the fender of the Sheriffs Office van a few years back.
The volunteer brain trusts have worked proudly — if dubiously — to ensure that something truly stupid will set the tone for the race.
The Race Committee apologizes for an inadvertently competent start last year, and we want to assure one and all that we have multiple redundant screw-ups planned this year to compensate.
