While there are any number of participants who legitimately compete for the $300 cash prize offered to the runner who beats the course record of 31:26 for men or 36:46 for women, the emphasis is on having a good time, and getting out alive.
The first, second and third place trophies crafted by local artisan Merrill Strange for males and females in each of now twelve categories also acts as something of a incentive.
