Nathan Corbin and his brother left in the early morning, and the car Corbin was driving went off the road on the way home. Dylan Corbin was thrown from the vehicle and died.
Luke told the court Tuesday that Corbin’s death can be traced in part to the presence of liquor at that party.
Attorney Chris Whelan of Warrenton presented several letters of support for Sharp, who is a first year student at the University of Virginia at Charlottesville.
Whelan asked the judge to mitigate her punishment because of the long term damage it might have on a promising career in which security clearances for military service might be affected.
Luke told the court “she has no one to blame but herself — if she had shown leadership that night.. as we would expect from a naval officer” she would not be facing these charges.
Judge Foley agreed with Luke. He said that he hoped that this instance early in her life would be an “eye-opener” to the dangers of letting down your standards for even a moment.
