Rev. Merlin W. Shorb, Sr., pastor of the Rappahannock Methodist Church, has announced his retirement. On June 26, at 10 a.m., at the Flint Hill Methodist Church, Rev. Shorb will lead a combined worship service for all three churches in the Charge: Sperryville, Flint Hill, and Willis Chapels, bringing to a formal close 23 years of service to these congregations as their pastor and spiritual leader. Hie public is invited.
Merlin and Joy, his wife of 46 years, have made their home at the Flint Hill parsonage since he began his tenure here in 1982. At that time, there were three teenagers in the household; a son and two daughters. Their daughters attended and graduated from Rappahannock High School. Their son was already in college.
Merlin Shorb has always been a man of God although not always a pastor. Shortly after graduating from American University in 1957 With a degree in chemistry, he began a career in music. Traveling with two of his brothers, Happy and Will, the Shorb Brothers
