June 25: Bluemont
presents Mark Newton
The Bluemont Concert Series is proud to present the Mark Newton Band on Saturday, June 25th at 7:30 p.m. for the second of ten Saturday evening performances. Due to construction activities at the new Fauquier Courthouse building, Bluemont concerts are relocated this season to the Old Shadow Lawn facility at 73 Culpeper Street between Franklin and Lee streets, one block south of old Warren Green in downtown Warrenton.
Admission is $5 per person, $4 for Bluemont Friends and seniors, $1 for kids under six; proceeds go to support Bluemont’s year round Artist-InEducation Programin area schools. Mark Newton will also participate in Bluemont’s Healthcare Outreach Program by performing for the residents of a local healthcare facility.
Mark Newton, a Stafford Virginia native, has been on the cutting edge of bluegrass for over two decades. Since his emergence on the bluegrass scene as a founding member of the legendary Virginia Squires twenty years ago, Newton has acquired a national following and critical acclaim for his innovative style and smooth vocals. Joining Mark Newton are Clay Hess on mandolin and flat-picking bluegrass guitar, Thomas Wywrot on banjo and guitar, and Beth Lawrence on bass. Join them for a night of world-class bluegrass.
Plan to bring a lawn chair or a blanket to sit on. A local community group will provide homemade refreshments as a fundraiser for its programs. Door prizes donated by local merchants will be awarded during the intermission. Pets, alcohol and smoking are prohibited at all Bluemont events. In case of bad weather, the concert will be held at the Taylor Middle School auditorium.

June 25, July 9: Blooming
daylilies and hosta
Long Mountain Nursery will open for the daylilies that have started blooming. The hostas are blooming as well. If you wander through the nursery, you might just find an exotic late blooming azalea that catches your eye.
For those of you who can make it, the nursery will be open on the following Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. If these times prove inconvenient for you, please call the nursery (540) 675-3707) and they will work out something. The dates are Saturday, June 25 and July 9. The nursery will be closed on Saturday, July 2.
