Thinking about snow

By Carol Lucking

Special to the Rappahannock News

Rappahannock became home to Virginia’s first 4-H Ski/Snowboard club this year when an enthusiastic group of twelve teens began meeting this past December. Drawn together by their passion for downhill skiing and snowboarding, the club met with leader Carol Lucking monthly to formalize the club, establish its goals, and educate themselves on careers in the snow industry.

Officers were elected in January and weekly excursions to Massanutten began throughout the snow season which ended mid-March this year.

The club will have a booth at this Saturday’s Rivers and Roots Festival in Sperryville and will raffle off a set of donated Rossignol skis and poles to begin fundraising efforts to help offset the cost of a club trip to Snowshoe in West Virginia this winter for a more challenging experience.

For more information on 4-H, Carol Lucking can be reached at 987-9556. Email: spydermountain@yahoo.com.
