publishes new
edition of James
Russell book
Blackwater Publications, a new publishing business based in Rappahannock County, has just published a new, revised edition of Sperryville author James D. Russell’s book, “Beyond the Rim: From Slavery to Redemption in Rappahannock County, Virginia.”
The new publishing firm was established by James P. Gannon of.Castleton, a former newspaper editor and author, who is offering his services to writers who hope to see their own non-fiction books in print. Blackwater Publications plans to specialize in local history, biography, autobiography and other “life stories,” and special-interest books, Gannon said.
James Russell initially self-published Beyond the Rim, the life story of his greatgrandmother Caroline Terry, who was a slave on plantations in Rappahannock County. When he was a young boy, Russell, now aged 84, would help take care of his aged great-grandmother and listened to her stories of plantation life, slavery, the Civil War, and her life after slavery in Sperryville.
Russell sold more than 1,500 copies of the book himself, and now has designated Blackwater Publications as his publisher and marketing arm.
