When asked what he hopes will be his legacy, Rev. Shorb did not hesitate. “I Hope I have left them well grounded in the scripture.” Mabel Lillard believes he has done that.
Merlin Shorb will be sorely missed by those who have come to love him for the gentle spirit that he is, and by those who have come to rely and depend on the comfort he has brought to so many of us in our darkest hours.
We can only say to him as he says to us at the close of each service, “May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”
Following the June 26 service at the Flint Hill Methodist Church, there will be a pot luck dinner at the Sperryville Fire Hall. All are invited; all are welcome.
