For their own good, I try to “terrorize” in turn little bears that get too friendly (For instance, by coming up oh our deck and putting their nose prints on the storm door glass). I want them to fear man and steer clear of human habitation.
Bear scare tactics
If a bear loses its fear of man, it can lose its life as well. Bears who become habituated to people, or learn to associate food with people, are far more likely to get into life-threatening trouble. So we should never feed bears; never let them get into our garbage, bird seed, or other feed; and in fact it is best to scare them off when they approach our homes.
Yelling at bears, throwing up my arms, and even stomping after them has become a routine around here. (Children: Don’t run after bears. Go in the house. Call daddy or mommy to come chase the bears. ... Daddy and Mommy: Make sure the bear is already running away from you if you decide to give chase - and keep your life insurance paid up!
