For the twentieth consecutive year, Avon Hall at Washington, home of Mr. and Mrs. William Carrigan, will be the site for the July 4th fireworks display in celebration of Independence Day. The evening celebration, following a day of activities appropriate for a real American homespun Fourth of July, will begin about 5:30 on the grounds around Avon Lake. Prior to the largest aerial display of fireworks ever held here, there will be major activities. - "The Potowmack Ancients", Fife and Drum Corps of Arlington with 25 seasoned troopers under the direction of Dr. Robert Wright will entertain with an hour of music and drills. ... balloon rides over Washington...
There's a long, long trail a winding from Houston, Texas to Sperryville - to which Gina and John Sigwald can attest, for they've covered all 1500 miles of it - on bicycles. And, if that isn't enough, they plan to leave Sperryville Friday and add another 1500 miles, back to Houston by way of Orlando, Fla. Gina and John are visiting their aunt, Mrs. Gladys Havstad and Peter in Old Hollow this week. They left Houston May 12 and arrived in this vicinity six weeks later.
