Due to Ranges in personnel charged with providing electrical service to the new gym, the gym may not be completed until at least October. Once electrical service is brought to the site and the AC can be powered up, the new floor must “acclimate” inside the air conditioned building for at least a couple of weeks before the floor can be installed. RCHS Track/Field
Rappahannock resident Bob Benyo’s Premier Sports Fields, Inc, has completed its work on the reconstruction of the Soccer / Football field including grading at crown, installing drainage, installing an irrigation system, and planting Bermuda grass. Thanks to the work of Captain Ann Spieker’s Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue volunteers trucking numerous loads of water to spray on the field dining a diy period prior to the completion of the irrigation system, the field will be ready for the first home football game on September 16. Benyo’s people have also completed the compaction of the gravel surface for the track, constructed all jump pits, relocated and powered up the score board, etc.
The firm that is constructing the track, Precision Sports Surfaces, Inc., added a new requirement after the signing of the contract: a number of trees must be removed along the south and west side of the track to insure full sunlight so that the latex track coating will cure properly. Therefore, at press time, the asphalt track surface has been installed. We. are reviewing bids from local tree specialists. Once the trees are removed, the latex surface and lane painting will follow to complete the project, hopefully by September 16.
