If there is one aspect of the
college life that I have not missed, it is the weather here. Blacksburg is often referred to as Bleaksburg for its unusually long, dreary stretches of miserable weather that comes during the fall semester and sojourns too long.
The rain seems to fall horizontally, the sky broods and is the color of black umbra, winds meet and merge and whip about wildly and snow piles up like forgotten term papers and’ final projects left behind. The sun is silent and hides behind opaque clouds, and the cold comes without warning and with an unapologetic arrogance.
In the heart of campus sits the dreaded Drillfield.
