In the words of one Troop 36 Scout, “We always pick the hottest week to go to Summer Camp.” These words proved prescient, as it was indeed a hot week at camp from July 30th to August 5th.
Camp Rock Enon, the Boy Scout camp for the Shenandoah Area Council is situated on the West Side of Great North Mountain, near Gore, and within an easy hike of the TXiscarora Trail. The camp sports a spring-fed lake, great for a quick escape from Virginia’s sometimes-oppressive heat and humidity.
Twenty five scouts of Troop 36 spent a week at camp this summer, two fortunate enough to spend an additional week concentrating on Eagle required merit badges.
Camp life begins early for attending scouts, with a 6:30 a.m. wakeup followed by preparations for campsite inspection before enjoying a hot breakfast at the dining hall. The scouts, once again, voted to attempt the Rock Enon Elite Award, and much to Senior Patrol Leader Josh Bywaters’ pleasure and
