Rappahannock County High Schools’ boys and girls cross country teams have been working on their pace the past few weeks.
Judging from their performance against four other Group A Bull Run teams Wednesday afternoon at Blue Rock, they are the right pace to be a huge factor in the late October district meet.
Rappahannock’s boys outscored George Mason, Strasburg, Manassas Park and Madison. Senior Josh Makela led the Panthers with a secondplace finish. Fellow senior Alex Ramey and junior Jake Rosenbaum also ran well.
On the girls’ side, Savanna Booth led a strong Rappahannock’s, fourth-place finish.
“We’re on pace to do something,” Rappahannock head coach Dave Gillis said.
“A lot of our kids did their personal-best times,” added assistant coach Pamela Chovnick.
To continue preparing for the district meet, which also will be held at Blue Rock, the Panthers work daily on adjusting their pace so that they remain fresh for the finish. A cross country course is 3.1 miles.
