Two middle school students excel in Latin
Latin teacher John McMahon recently announced the results of the 2005/2006 Exploratory Latin Exam. Two middle school students received national recognition for thenscores: John Morgan Christoph received a Magna Cum Laude award (score of 92%) and Will Mullany received a Cum Laude award (score of 80%).

Constitution
This year, the 10th grade U.S. Government class has been studying the Constitution of the United States and, in recognition of Constitution Week, several students addressed the weekly assembly on that subject. Jesse Marsh gave a summary of the history of the U.S. Constitution, sharing’interesting information with the audience: the U.S. Constitution, which has been around for 219 years, is the oldest and shortest of all written national constitutions; that while it is an imperfect document, of the 11,000 amendments that have been proposed over the years, only 27 have been adopted; that the oldest signer of our constitution was 81 - Ben Franklin, and the youngest was 26; after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, the Constitution was moved to Fort Knox for safekeeping, and that our constitution was signed in Philadelphia. Then Rachael Carrier and Katie vonFange presented the preamble to the U.S. Constitution, with Ms. Carrier reciting the text and Ms. vonFange “signing” the words.

Hearthstone School would like to welcome two exchange students this year. Both are high school students staying with Rappahannock County families while they attend Hearthstone School. One student hails from Macau and the other from Wiesenthau, Germany.
