Are you ready to talk about custom designed 'upholstered furniture? Last time I wrote about the traits of a well made piece of upholstered furniture. I related the virtues of kiln dried hardwood, double doweled, glued and screwed frames for sofas and chairs. I talked of eight-way hand tied coils and cushions that had the right “feel”. This article will deal with aspects of actually choosing the design of the furniture, and the pros and cons of different types of upholstery fabrics available.
If you go to a furniture store or a department store, it will most likely be that you will be able to try out a few sofa models on the floor. You will be allowed to wander the store and find a frame you like and then possibly leaf through the fabrics from which you would choose to have it upholstered.
