Bev Hunter is one of the original founding members of RappFLOW and a seasoned volunteer for the organization. She was veiy pleased with the space that she obtained in the new office building for the Rappahannock non-profit centers. “We now have a place where people can come and use our library of information and sample data,” she said cheerfully as she prepared binders for an upcoming meeting. Hunter was particularly proud that the office was in Sperryville next to the Thornton River, one of the main rivers in Rappahannock County.
Hunter was raised in Rappahannock County next to the Rappahannock River in the Jackson District of Rappahannock County. Her team of RappFLOW volunteers work part time gathering data and educating citizens in order to protect Rappahannock’s watershed. “We will now have a place where volunteers can stop by and use the office computer, with a broadband Internet connection and be able to run programs,” Hunter said.
The RappFLOW comer of the conference center contains numerous watershed maps, pictures, pamphlets, presentations and research material. RappFLOW is primarily a research and educational organization rather than a policy directed advocacy group. Tbgether the volunteers learn how to conduct tests of the water and improve the condition of stream buffers. RappFLOW’s program is highlighted on their website at www.rappflow.org.
