Jim Webb, Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in Virginia and Jim Nachman, Democratic candidate for Virginia’s the 7th Congressional District, will be present at the Blue Ridge Rally for Jim Webb this Sunday afternoon, October 1,1-4 pm.

Ben Jones, entertainer and former Congressman, and his wife Alma Viator will host the event at their Sugar Hill Farm on Harris Hollow here in Washington, VA. This will be the first event of this importance and magnitude hosted by Ben and Alma at their form. Voters and their families will have, a rare opportunity to meet and talk with the candidates. | r h Jim Webb will be making his first appearance in the area since winning the Democratic primary in June. Ben Jones land Jim Webb have known each other since the early 80s. In recent debates, Jim Webb has demonstrated composure, pas* sion, and depth of knowledge on the issues that comes from experience rather than theory. Jim served with the Fifth, Marine Segment in Vietnam, where as a rifle platoon and company commander in the infamous An Hoa Basin west of Danang, he was awarded the Navy Cross, the Silver Star Medal, two Bronze Star Medals, and two Purple Hearts.

After returning home, Jim served in the U.S. Congress as counsel to the House Committee on Veterans Affairs from 1977 to 1981, becoming the first Vietnam veteran to serve as a full committee counsel in the Congress. In 1984, Jim was appointed the inaugural Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs and worked closely with, our NATO allies. In 1987 Jim appointed Secretary of the Navy. In 1988, Jim

Jim Nachman will be making his second visit to Rappahannock County since his June nomination. Jim lives in the southern end of the 7th Congressional District in Richmond where he has a law practice. He has long served the Democratic Party starting in 1968 when he volunteered for Hubert Humphrey’s Presidential campaign. He hag served on several local and national campaigns since and i^ the current chairman of the Richmond City Democratic Committee, a position he has held for 8 years.
