Kathryn Treanor, President of the Rappahannock County Band Boosters, smiled proudly as she expressed her gratitude to all those who contributed to the purchase of the new uniforms. “The Band Boosters are grateful for the huge outpouring * of donations from this community. Thanks to their generosity, we surpassed our goal of $16,000, bringing in over $20,000! This enabled us to purchase 65 uniforms.” The excess funds were especially helpful as the band membership grew over the summer, from 38 participants last year to 56 this year. “We have 24 eighth graders who have joined the band,” explained Yonkey.
During the half time show, the band performed songs from the Rolling Stones, including “Brown Sugar”, “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”, and “Satisfaction,” much to the delight of the audience. During the game, they worked in conjunction with the cheerleaders to pep up the fans and support the team, playing a variety of song snatches. They will perform again at the remaining home game on Saturday, October 21st. They will also travel with the team to two away games on October 27th and November 10th. Another opportunity to see the band in their new uniforms will be at the Christmas Parade in Little Washington on December 3rd.
