July 11: Scrabble

School presentation

A presentation on the Scrabble School Oral History/Community Mapping Project will take place on Wednesday, July 11, 2007, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the RappFlow offices beside the Old Schoolhouse in Sperryville. Everyone is welcome, especially Scrabble School alumni, history buffs, mapping buffs, story-lovers, and all who enjoy learning about Rappahannock County and its unique community and culture. Participants can learn about the project and review the draft presentation, watch video clips and read stories about the school told by twelve Scrabble School alumni, see maps created by RCHS Geospatial Technologies students showing where selected Scrabble School alumni went to high school and college, and help us to interpret 1960 aerial photos of the Woodville area—can you identify local landmarks, buildings, or roads? The evening is sponsored by Scrabble School Preservation Foundation, Piedmont Research Institute, UVA’s Center for the Study of Local Knowledge, and Ki Theatre. The Scrabble School Community Mapping Project project is made possible by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities (VFH) as part of its African American Heritage Program. For more information, please contact Amy Silver O’Leary at 540860-1774 or visit www.scrabbleschool.org.
