Offensively, centerfielder Bobby Czekaj led the way for Post 330 with a 2-for-3 day at the plate and a pair of stolen bases. Despite being saddled with the loss, Jason Jenkins struck out nine National batters.
The beauty of a doubleheader is the chance of immediate redemption following a bad game, this however was not to be for Post 330.
In the first inning, Stafford broke the ice early and scored two runs offbase hits. Post 330 (1-4) was consistently able to put runners on base, as was the case in the first game, but once again failed to push runs across the plate in a consistent manner.
Stafford added runs in the third and fifth innings, with Past 330 mustering a run on the strength of an Alan Beall RBI single in the fourth inning.
A solo home run in the sixth for Stafford brought the scare to 7-1 in their favor. In the seventh, Rappahannock/Culpeper attempted a late game comeback with hits from Alan Beall, Chase Tupper and L.B. Settle.
But in the end, the Stafford defense was too much, and P*t 330 ultimately fell short of victory with the game ending 7-2 in favor of the Stafford Nationals.
Afterwards, Coach Alex Baumgardner mentioned the late game of the night before may have contributed to Past 330's lackluster play.
“We need to improve out hitting and overall defensive play’ Post 330 Coach Alex Baumgardner said. “Maybe we were worn out firm Friday but that’s no excuse, we’ve got to be ready to play”
Post 330 will try to end a four-game skid Thursday when they host Strasburg.
