Grazon, from Dow Chemical. It is a combination of 2,4-D and Pidoram.

Pidoram is the ingredient that has caused the problems on our farm, and has rendered roughly half of the food our farm would have produced inedible (both by our own standard, and legally, as it is unrated for human consumption). We don’t yet know the actual concentration of the chemical in our soil, and are still undear about how much time we’ll need to remediate the problem. We hope it will be no more than one growing season.

The more we learn about this particular chemical, Pidoram, the riskier it seems to apply it to the earth at all.

Pidoram (formerly named Tbrdon) has been around for decades, but has only been used in Virginia since 2002, and is only sold in some parts of Virginia — areas, like our Rappahannock County, where broadleaf row crops are uncommon and cows and hayfields are. It’s designed to kill all broadleaf plants, is effective at trace dosages and persists on the hay and in the soil. It also persists through the gut of cows, horses or any animal that eats it and comes out in the manure, thus making a good organic compost component trade to garden plants.
