School costs
Rappahannock County Schools Superintendent Bob Chappell told the board that $9,069.50 of the schools’ 200607 budget went unspent and will be returned to the county.
Jackson District Supervisor Ron Frazier and Wakefield District Supervisor Roger Welch will work with County School Board members to try to find ways for the schools to increase funding received from the state.
Allegheny denied
County Administrator John McCarthy reported that a 16-percent residential rate hike proposed by Allegheny Power was denied by the State Corporation Commission.
Fees raised
The board agreed to raise application fees for zoning permits $100. The current fees had not been changed since 1994 and were not covering the county’s costs for mailing and administration. Community services
Brian Duncan, of the Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board and Area Agency on Aging, reported to the board on the group’s plan for fiscal 2008.
The agency plans to roll out several new services during the next year.
Duncan and other representatives at the meeting said it has been a tough budget year for the agency. More people are moving to the region, but funding sources are not increasing.
