be captured. The life of handsome South Carolinian Will Farley, a true Confederate patriot, seems like a John Wayne movie. Farley once leaped on his horse and raced after a federal train, rode alongside the engine, and shot the engineer. Culpeper native Frank Stringfellow was rejected by the cavalry four times because of his sparse size. Yet, one historian called him “the most dangerous spy in the Confederacy.” Whether hiding under an old woman’s hoop skirt or attending a Union ball in drag, Culpeper’s “007" is credited by Gen. Fitzhugh Lee with gathering more information for the Army of Northern Virginia than any other man. Mrs. Morton is a Culpeper author and tour guide. Don’t miss hearing her illustrated talk on the lives of two of her favorite soldiers featured in her historical novel “Marching Through Culpeper.” The lecture will be held at the Graffiti House, 19484 Brandy Road, in Brandy Station, VA.
