This Friday, Nov. 16, the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and Community presents its last French Film for 2007. Well, it’s also the last film we will show this year.
“Ratatouille” was one of this year's best reviewed films and it grossed over $500 million worldwide. Rosie and I don’t drive into the city to see animated films (we lie films that only 30-40 other people in Rappahannock like) but we sometimes like them when we finally see them. For me, this is one of those films. For sheer enjoyment of watching a Pixar - created world, beautifully produced, with perfect animation, this is a movie to see. An implausible story about Rats and a Five Star restaurant , most of the action takes place in Paris. But the characters speak in English with “zee French accents.” Only the songs are in French.
Foodies have commented that the inside jokes and story lines about the five-star kitchen and front room are true to form but obvious enough that everyone can get in on them. Thank goodness Disney designed the main character, a rat named Retoy, as a cute little slate blue fellow with pink ears and pink nose. Otherwise I
